5 days in. I am sure it should be getting easier…
This post shows progress on Day 5 of my 30-day push up challenge. If you haven’t seen the terms of the challenge you should take a look at this article where I set out the objectives. Click here to see previous day’s updates.
Day 5 in Figures
Day 5 Progress
This was a bad day. It started badly and finished falling a long way short of target. Plenty of time to go yet though.
Sunday morning lie in so Push Ups a little later than usual. No real aches and pains this time so it may be that the intial responses to starting an exercise campaign are dropping off.
So, while I struggled to pump out another 25 Push Ups in that morning set 3 things occurred to me:
- I could hear plenty of grating and grinding sounds from my right shoulder. They are probably always there but, while stuck feeling how hard this now seemed, it made me feel sorry for myself. It’s just age related wear and tear but still quite noisy. So far it has stopped me doing anything.
- My resting heartbeat can be as low as 45-46 bpm. The low heartrate is not due to a level of hyper fitness that I haven’t previously disclosed. I am still taking beta blockers following a minor heart attack last March. It takes longer for it to get up to exercise levels for aerobic exercise. It will have an effect on the stored oxygen levels in my blood so I need to do more to warm up and get the blood and oxygen flowing before starting the push ups
- Based on thought both previous thoughts, I should warm up before dropping down to do a set of Push Ups. Some shoulder shrugs and arm pumps will help to get the shoulders moving and the heart pumping a little more
Being Sunday, we all had a family dinner in the evening. My wife and I will often have a beer in the afternoon and will share a bottle of wine with the meal.
Not too surprisingly, the Sunday evening routine got in the way of completing the final set. In all honesty, there was plenty of time and opportunity to have knocked out 20 push ups to make the daily target. Sadly, after a beer and some wine, the will was missing.
It means that I have dropped behind schedule.
