Day 12 Progress and Thoughts
Just over the one third mark. Mornings are not feeling any easier but sessions of 30, 35 and 35 still give 100 push ups complete in just 3 sessions. That is quite an improvement on previous efforts. I’m not sure it felt any easier.
For the last 2 sessions I was on the living room carpet and had just slipped my shoes off. Previously i was on a tiled floor and was either bare foot or had on trainers. Socks on carpet don’t give a lot of grip. My feet were constantly slipping away.
The effect was great. To maintain my position I had to engage my abdominal muscles much more than before. After just 2 sets of push ups I can feel the effects on my abs and lower back. I knew this challenge would need more than just arm and shoulder muscles. It is now clear that, just by wearing socks and doing sets on a carpeted floor, I will get so much more from my abs and back.
At the point of hitting 100 today I needed to average 128 per day to hit my stretch target. That dropped to just over 126 after completing the late night set. Exercising late at night is not a great idea. All of the sleep gurus talk of maintaining a pre-bed routine. Gradually running down and relaxing so that when you go to bed you are ready for sleep. Doing 30 push ups is not a good part of that presleep routing.
The biggest issue for this whole challenge could be my impending return to the office. in the UK all covid restrictions are being removed. it is going to be difficult to find the location and time to hit a couple of sets of push ups when back in the office.
