30-Day Push Up Challenge – Day 4

A better start to the day. Definitely not so many negative thoughts. So much of this, and any exercise challenge, sits in the brain. Any negative thoughts translate directly to poor performance.

Muscle pains and aches seemed much less today.

It was also a golf day. Temperatures around 35F (2C) made that an interesting exercise. The frost didn’t clear completely which leads to some strange bounces. The important thing was that the push ups hadn’t caused me to stiffen up so much that swinging the golf club was difficult.

Playing golf makes it harder to spread the push up sets evenly through the day. It probably isn’t helped by having a beer or 2 after playing.

As I look at the numbers achieved in each set I notice I force myself to complete sets in multiples of 5. This must be previous mental conditioning. There is nothing in the challenge that says this is a requirement. It does help make the adding up a lot easier. As I am using a spreadsheet to do the calculations that is not much of a benefit.

For the set of 30 at 20:30 the last Push Up needed a lot of effort and strain. Maybe stopping at 29 would have made more sense.

I decided to do another set just before going to bed. It meant I exceeded the target for the day but my heartbeat was certainly lifted too much to go right to bed. At least I managed to keep up with the target.
